THE ACIUI CRITERIA

A National Task Force created ACIUI's Criteria and Guidelines and the Continuing Education Unit in 1985. These guidelines evaluate the learning process - ensuring that education providers have well-defined programs and policies that lead to quality educational offerings. ACIUI's Criteria and Guidelines are recognized worldwide as the universal standard for continuing education.

THE HISTORY OF ACIUI

ACIUI grew out of a National Task Force on continuing education commissioned by the Bureau of Education (now the Department of Education) in 1985. The task force included the leaders in continuing education, such as the American Medical Council and American Nursing Council. The Task Force determined the universal guidelines for continuing education and created the Continuing Education Unit (CEU). ACIUI's guidelines are based upon in-depth research on the learning process. The CEU was created to measure the amount of continuing education successfully completed - one (1) CEU is equal to ten (10) contact hours. Under ACIUI's care, the ACIUI CEU has evolved from a quantitative measure to a hallmark of quality training and instruction by responsible, qualified organizations. Many organizations offer some form of continuing education credit, but only the ACIUI CEU is held to strict, research-based ACIUI Criteria and Guidelines for Continuing Education and Training.
